15 year old Artist Ixaras Releases Successful Indie Pop Anthem ‘Lately’

Ixaras is a 15 year old singer songwriter based in Meanjin who has just released her feel-good indie anthem ‘Lately’.

Produced by Aaron Shanahan (Miami Horror, Dream Dali, Sunday), and recorded at Music Industry College, Ixaras (Ixara Dorizac) played each instrument herself on the track, crafting a DIY, indie feel to the track.

Lately is not a love song, instead it's a song about growing in self-awareness and realising that some relationships are not meant to be.

“I wrote the song when I was in a position of not really understanding why a certain connection with someone felt one-sided. I’m really happy with the finished product and hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!” - Ixaras

Talking about the track, Ixaras mentions “I garnered inspiration from artists such as Wallows, and Dayglow for the sound on this track. Initially wanting the song to be synth oriented, but then making the riff guitar based came to mind and I was extremely satisfied.”

Already having plays from Triple J Unearthed as well asTriple J’s Home & Hosed program, the reception for ‘Lately’ has been successful.

“the guitar line is giving 2010s indie pop and i REALLY LOVE IT. coupled with the mordern ixaras twist, it's a winner” - Ash McGregor (Triple J Home & Hosed)

“ixaras ... i'm so in love with your sound! such an eclectic pick of inspirations, but somehow you've managed to combine all the best parts of each to create an indie pop gem!”

- Anika Luna (Triple J Unearthed community producer)

“Okay....banger! Ixaras makes that guitar sing!” - Dave Ruby Howe (Triple J)

Ixaras keeps herself busy, involving herself in a handful of musical projects and is the face of alternative rock band SUNDAY SERVICE as well as being the founder of Anti-Dismal, an independent youth focused record label.

Discovering her passion for music after picking up the guitar when she was 11 years old, Ixara started out writing songs on her mothers bedroom floor. From there, she has been in a multitude of bands, put on live gigs, and even starred in an ABC TV short film ‘Vivs Silly Mango’ where she plays musician Nikki Tu, the angsty, rebellious new girl.

Although Ixaras’ debut track is indie pop oriented, Ixara shares that her musical influences range quite far.

“I’m really into female fronted rock and local Brisbane bands such as Platonic Sex and WAAX. I love singer/songwriters such as beabadoobee and Jeff Buckley. I was raised on R&B music such as Lauryn Hill and Boyz II Men, so I find melody driven songs to be super fun.” - Ixaras
