Brisbane Rapper Day1 Returns With New Track “MBAPPÉ”

India Wallis

Hailing from Brisbane, rising rapper Day1 releases the noxious new single “Mbappé” featuring Sydney artist Kahukx.

Boasting a swaggering beat and unrelenting energy, Day1 and Kahukx’s collab is tailor-made to cure the winter blues. As the pair mix multi-lingual bars seamlessly, Day1’s signature accented sound uses his mixed Māori and Australian heritage as inspiration, blending contemporary hip-hop and melodic rap in a confident, sleek style. Having signed to Warner Australia and dropping new visuals alongside the track, Day1’s fast-rising rep is on full display as scenes of his packed-out, high-energy visualiser loop in with the party aura.

A core member of the sought-after Area Movement collective, “Mbappé” marks the most recent collaboration for Day1, following previous features with Hooligan Hefs and a key appearance on the all-star remix of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s “Mood Swings” - racking up over 5.4M streams alongside local artists Youngn Lipz and Creed Tha Kid.

Bursting onto the scene with the viral certified ARIA Platinum hit “BOSS”, Day1 has clocked up almost 75M streams despite his limited time in the game. Making waves abroad, “BOSS” peaked at #1 on the Irish Spotify Viral Chart, and found a home in Ireland’s Top 100 Single Chart landing at #64.

Having had 5 tracks in the Australian Spotify Viral chart, he has made himself a staple on DSPs with playlist features including Get Turnt, Hot Hits Australia and Hip Hop FM. With a fanbase totalling over 376k monthly Spotify listeners, he continues to grow with the help of major industry support from NME, Vogue, GQ, ACCLAIM, Purple Sneakers, and Pilerats, as well as radio’s triple j, Soundcloud Radio, and Radio Metro.

Despite only having a short time in the limelight, Day1’s impulse for combining his natural vocal talents and ear for infectious instrumentals is quickly poising him for significant success. Keep your eyes on Day1 as he sets out to be one of the country’s newest breakout stars.
