Bronte Alva Knows Heartbreak All Too Well With New Track 'Taylor Swift'

Dharawal/Wollongong-based indie rock artist Bronte Alva has unveiled her latest single 'Taylor Swift' – produced by Wayne Connolly (Babe Rainbow, Hoodoo Gurus, Josh Pyke) at Hercules Street Studios.

'Taylor Swift' is three minutes of punchy, zestful indie-rock, given depth and colour by Bronte's candid storytelling and gut-punching vocal delivery. The nostalgic aura is complimented by Bronte's modern execution, providing sonic parallels to 90s classic films such as 10 Things I Hate About You.

Bronte Alva talks about the inspiration behind 'Taylor Swift':

"'Taylor Swift' covers all things heartbreak and growing pains within the power imbalance of dating an older man in my teens. I was 17. He was 27. He was my gym instructor. A week before my 18th birthday he ghosted me. I felt angry, sad, betrayed, played, manipulated and pretty damn stupid. It wasn't until later with a lot of reflection that I realised it wasn't my fault. One song in particular that connected to me was 'All Too Well' by Taylor Swift. It follows her reminiscing on her experiences dating an older man and all that comes with it. I wrote the song when I was 18, ruminating and reminiscing on the experience. It taught me my worth and ultimately those were growing pains that got me to where I am."

In the live scene, Bronte Alva has previously joined The Terrys as main support on a 10 show tour, and shared the stage with beloved Aussie acts such as WAAX, The Grogans and TOWNS. She has also joined the recently announced lineup for 2023 Yours & Owls Festival.

Bronte Alva's musical background started as a classically trained pianist, inspired and drawn to playing music by Beethoven. From this, she spent her teenage years listening to the likes of Missy Higgins, Angus and Julia Stone and other pop luminaries that have grown to influence her eclectic sound. Previous releases have been widely embraced by triple j, triple j Unearthed and Australian community radio stations such as FBi Radio, 4ZZZ, Valley FM and more.
