21-year-old African/Australian rapper/producer Chandler Jewels has unveiled his relentless new EP 'SPRING' – produced, mixed and mastered by the artist himself. This comes off the back of 'COMMA'S' by ONEFOUR receiving an ARIA nomination for Best Hip Hop / Rap Release (2023), a track he produced.
'SPRING' surges with a timeless fusion of hues and inventiveness, boldly illuminated by Chandler Jewels' unparalleled essence and vigour. Influenced by the likes of Baby Keem, Beam and Kendrick Lamar, the six-track EP chronicles a dynamic tapestry of wordplay, rhythm and flawless vocal fluency.
Chandler Jewels talks about the inspiration behind 'SPRING':
"I approached the project as an alter-ego being, 'Chany Spring', a character that is very arrogant and cocky in his ability to rap with multiple voices and cadences very seamlessly. It's almost like I'm taunting the industry with my ability to rap, mix and produce all my records with ease and quality. 'Chany Spring' is the embodiment of being young and free with no limitations to life. The world is my playground and whatever I say goes." 'BACK IN THIS BITCH' emerges with filtered samples, setting an ominous allure before spitting rap collide with the intense, skittering sonic landscape. Dynamic interplay between the melody and arrangement continuously ricochets amidst the bellowing brass, before 'I'M HIM' enters with an explosive allure. The track highlights Chandler Jewels' gritty delivery, commanding a magnetic presence with an assertive attitude. 'ROADRUNNER FLOW' featuring Ash Swaze closes the first half of the EP, with both rappers echoing witty verses against a bittersweet grandiosity. 'ZZZ' continues to soar amidst the trap-inspired groove, swirling into a reverb-laden presence amid glitchy instrumentation, vintage pianos, and feature artist Sa!txero's introspective lyricism. 'MONEYBAG SZN' cuts into a culmination of hushed intensity, bridging both intricate layering and the powerful juxtapositions of fervour. 'OUTSIDE' feat. Kota Kaan closes the record, opening with metallic grooves, interweaving with a rich bass line that reverberates against the murky synths.
