With a powerful voice, impressive guitar skills, and a lot of energy on stage, Dennis Comino is capturing the attention of many audiences through his touring, and broad range of listeners.
An official Cole Clark Guitars artist and an accomplished songwriter from a young age, Dennis is quickly making his way into the music scene. He enjoys writing and performing his own music and collaborating with other musicians. Dennis has been described by many as a mature songwriter with a creative ability to turn stories into songs.
Comino’s style is best described as a mix of Aussie Rock and Country with an alternate indie/pop twist, influenced by artists such as Travis Collins, Keith Urban, INXS and Powderfinger.
The young artist draws inspiration for his songs through his own personal experiences and from the world around him. With a real love for music of all genres, his latest single ‘Head Over Heels’ is a blend of alternative indie with a hint of country.
"‘Head Over Heels’ was created from an experience of understanding that things were over and it was time to move on, but also being honest with yourself and acknowledging that if they so much as say your name you’d run straight back to them. It is a song that is honest and relatable to many who have been in similar situations after a break up." - Dennis Comino
As the song builds, Comino explores his love of genre blending through the use of a saxophone solo, paying homage to acts like Sam Fender and The 1975.
The single was recorded with Kelsey Berrington at Bear Cabin Studios in Kobble Creek just outside of Brisbane. It was then mixed by Jason Millhouse (Kate Ceberano, Rachel Price), and mastered by Grammy award winning mastering engineer William Bowden (Kylie Minogue, The Living End).
Dennis was fortunate to have some of Brisbane’s most talented session musicians work with him on the track. Dan Ferguson on lead guitar, Nathan Ferguson on bass and Ashley Hutton on saxophone. All these instruments mixed with some electronic instruments and drumming patterns compliment the lyrics and Dennis’ powerful vocals in the song to give a real feel of all the emotions felt during the stages of a relationship break up.
Dennis has grown up listening to music of many genres, but it wasn’t until he was 12 years of age that he started to show an interest in learning to perform, write and play his own music. He started out by having vocal lessons at a local music tuition studio close to home. Six weeks after his first lesson Dennis was performing at the Brisbane Showgrounds as part of the Royal Queensland show (EKKA). This was the moment he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the music industry.
A few years on and Dennis is now coached by Vocal Coach and Artist Mentor Neridah Leishman, who is known for taking Australian artists such as Casey Barnes, Amy Shark, Jordi Marcs (Selfish Sons), Lachlan Caskey (Last Dinosaurs) and Luke Boerdam (Violent Soho) to their success.
Comino showed a love of guitar at the age of 13 years and is being coached by local talent Dan Ferguson - a Brisbane based musician who has successfully been performing locally, interstate and overseas from his early teens. Dan and Nathan both worked as session musicians on Dennis’ single ‘Head Over Heels’.
Dennis has learnt the art of crossing genres to create his own unique sound, making his music appealing to audiences of all ages. He has reached many goals and achievements and is continually chasing new ones. Be sure to follow this young artist and witness all that is yet to come.
