Going Swimming Announce Album 'Can't Wake Up' & Share Unapologetic Cut 'Hating / Waiting'

Emma Ray

Naarm/Melbourne-based surf-punk band Going Swimming have just announced their new album 'Can't Wake Up' - due out Friday, October 13.

Accompanying this announcement is their second single off the record, 'Hating / Waiting' – produced by the band and mixed by Rohan Sforcina (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Adalita).

'Hating / Waiting' unleashes an uncontainable torrent of infectious energy and tumultuous instrumentation, led with soaring chanting vocals from frontman Nicholas Leggatt. Amid the sonic tempest, the chorus brims with intensity and emerges with unfiltered gang vocals underneath a soaring melody. Chromatic guitar riffs offer a moment of reprieve, before the final chorus plunges into a cacophony of surf-punk exuberance, leaving behind a visceral aftertaste of unbridled and untamed fervour.

Going Swimming talk about the inspiration behind 'Hating / Waiting':

"The lyrics are about making mistakes in relationships and hurting those that you care about most. Sometimes it's easy to forget and take it for granted, as it's those moments of thoughtlessness that can really ruin what we hold closest, even if you didn't intend it that way. The song comes full circle in the end, and whilst we never like to get too deep and meaningful, hopefully this tune will serve as an ongoing reminder to not take for granted the ones in our life who are most important."

Since their inception in 2012, Going Swimming have cemented themselves as a mainstay in Naarm/Melbourne's vibrant punk scene, releasing two full-length records, 'Deadtime Stories' (2015) and 'Sultans of Swim' (2018). To celebrate the albums release, the band will play a one-off launch show at Lulie Tavern in Naarm/Melbourne.The band have continuously played to capacity crowds since their formation and supported the likes of Australian favourites Polish Club, and international hotshots Guantanamo Baywatch (USA) and White Fang

(USA).
