Filipino/Cambodian ixaras is a 16-year-old singer/songwriter steadily making her mark in the industry. Recently a finalist in the 2023 Unearthed High competition, supporting artists such as Platonic Sex, Tyne James Organ, and Luca Brasi, as well as winning a slot to perform at the southern hemisphere's biggest music industry gathering BIGSOUND, this year is signaling her trajectory for a continuous ascent.

Her music is characterised by its raw vulnerability, infectious melodies, and impactful presence, drawing comparisons to artists like beabadoobee, Indigo De Souza, and Wet Leg.

Written about losing yourself in the process of a relationship, Sprouts’ dives into the draining feelings and dynamics of emotional labor. Recorded in her friend and bassist Josh Woo’s bedroom, ixaras was inspired by 1980s synthesisers and beabadoobee’s use of open tunings. “I thought it was really pretty, I was always inspired by folk artists and how they did open tunings. I really wanted to include that element, also including retro elements from the 80s. This is why we had the synthesisers and we tried to mimic sounds from the 80s, especially with like the little elements that we had in the harmonies that we had. We tried to make the melodies really catchy to mimic an 80s song. Every single 80s song always has a really good hook.” - ixaras

With the song completed, ixaras uploaded it to Triple J Unearthed. After an increase of support from new fans, as well as media, radio, and the news of being an Unearthed High finalist, ixara is sharing ‘Sprouts’ with the rest of the world via digital streaming platforms.

With graduation just around the corner, Ixara has been actively pursuing exciting prospects and forging connections within the music industry, not only in support of her own musical endeavors but also through Anti Dismal, her youth-centric record label that she established during her first year of Music Industry College at the young age of 14. Through this label, she organizes all-ages events in and around Brisbane, further cementing her involvement in the music scene.

Ixaras has shown no signs of slowing down; with an EP in the pipeline for next year, anticipate a multitude of live performances, events, and a bountiful supply of infectious tunes from Ixara.
