Eora/Sydney-based alt-rock shapeshifters RedHook are launching into 2024 with one of their heaviest singles to date in 'Scream 2' – produced by Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore).
Conceptualised as a sequel to their 2020 single 'Cure 4 Psycho', which has ticked over two and a half million streams on Spotify, 'Scream 2' is a snarling, pit-ready hair-raiser that combines System Of A Down-esque metal chaos with deadly pop hooks, showcasing RedHook at the height of their musical adventurousness and ferocity.
Vocalist Emmy Mack talks about the inspiration behind 'Scream 2':
"'Scream 2' is the next chapter in a painfully relatable horror story for anyone who has survived narcissistic abuse. It's about the aftermath of escaping the narcissist. Once you remove their power, they may continue trying to hurt you by whatever means remain available to them: vindictive mind games, smear campaigns, sending 'flying monkeys' to do their bidding, weaponising your trauma against you. This is a song about refusing to let them draw more blood. And, unlike the 'Scream' movie franchise, there will be no further sequels. This ends here."
The release of 'Scream 2' comes as RedHook gears up to take the stage at NSW's Great Southern Nights concert alongside the likes of G Flip, Northlane, Ball Park Music and more, headlining Warrang/Wollongong's UOW Uni Bar on Saturday, March 9. This follows on from a jam-packed live schedule across 2023, which saw RedHook tour Australia supporting legendary rockers The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction, before completing their biggest ever, largely sold-out headline tour, which included a recording of triple j's Live At The Wireless at their sold-out Naarm/Melbourne show at the Corner Hotel.
The band then toured the UK and Europe for a third time, supporting Stand Atlantic and performing live at the 20th Anniversary of Download UK and Czech Republic's Rock For People. They ended 2023 with a packed summer festival season, playing Spilt Milk alongside Post Malone and Dom Dolla, and Tarntanya/Adelaide's Froth and Fury Fest alongside Sunk Loto and Suicidal Tendencies. They've also previously played Germany's Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, and Australia's Yours & Owls, Groovin the Moo, Good Things and UNIFY Gathering festivals.
