Brisbane/Meanjin brass-led octet The Steele Syndicate give us all something to look forward to with their bright and breezy, new single, The Weekend's Coming.
Lyrically the track is aimed squarely at those of us who have had one of those weeks. You know the ones? The ones where it's not even hump day Wednesday and you're frothing for a weekend beer and a break. "If you're feeling out of sorts...the weekend's coming. If you're on the last train home...the weekend's coming," the band giving us enough motivation to hang in there until knock-off time Friday (or whenever your weekend starts).
With a four-piece horn section and equally-weighted rhythm section, the exceptionally talented group combine their musical talents with slick production to create an optimistic tune that accompanies the warmer spring weather perfectly. I imagine a QR carriage full to standing capacity, passengers with wireless headphones tuned into their streaming service of choice, all humming along to the hook. Dreaming of the weekend that's coming. The title track from their upcoming album –and the second song to be released after the brilliantly infectious and cheeky 'One Beer (Is Never Enough)'– has the groovy funk-rockers continuing to impress with 'Weekend's Coming'. Steele McMahon elaborates: "The tune is a cathartic release from the day-to-day grind, and taps into the shared human experience of hard work for something important. Even in the hardest of times, what gets us through is knowing what we're fighting for. And the weekend is always just around the corner." We concur. Keep an ear out for The Steele Syndicate's 'Weekend's Coming' on September 2, ahead of the album release on October 14. The band will also be on tour throughout September, October and November, more details below.
